ABSTRACT

This study outlines the stress factors and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the stress variables among aviation workers, which includes airline employees, flight crews, pilots, maintenance crews, air traffic controllers, airport or ground workers, engineers, training personnel, and other aviation-related personnel. A review was done on 37 research papers using systematic literature review (SLR) and discovered nine stress factors among aviation workers which are working hours, workloads, internal factors, ergonomic issues, job uncertainty, job demands, organizational issues, team conflict, and the COVID-19 itself. The findings of this study could provide insights to employers in the aviation industry for mitigation actions that could help to successfully reduce and eliminate stress factors in the workplace. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The global outbreak of the new coronavirus epidemic has promoted the development of intelligent education and the utilization of online learning systems. In order to provide students with intelligent services such as cognitive diagnosis and personalized exercises recommendation, a fundamental task is the concept tagging for exercises, which extracts knowledge index structures and knowledge representations for exercises. Unfortunately, to the best of our knowledge, existing tagging approaches based on exercise content either ignore multiple components of exercises, or ignore that exercises may contain multiple concepts. To this end, in this paper, we present a study of concept tagging. First, we propose an improved pre-trained BERT for concept tagging with both questions and solutions (QSCT). Specifically, we design a question-solution prediction task and apply the BERT encoder to combine questions and solutions, ultimately obtaining the final exercise representation through feature augmentation. Then, to further explore the relationship between questions and solutions, we extend the QSCT to a pseudo-siamese BERT for concept tagging with both questions and solutions (PQSCT). We optimize the feature fusion strategy, which integrates five different vector features from local and global into the final exercise representation. Finally, we conduct extensive experiments on real-world datasets, which clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed models for concept tagging. IEEE

ABSTRACT

Multiple comparisons are general term for hypothesis testing of whether there is a significant difference between the means of each sample after analysis of variance. ANOVA can only determine whether there is a difference between the population means, and multiple comparisons can further test the differences between the sample means. This study will select the LSD (Least significant difference) test method in the multiple comparison method to conduct a differential test on the physical fitness test data of four different grades from 2018 to 2021 since the COVID-19 epidemic, and analyze the physical fitness of Chinese students under the background of new coronavirus epidemic. Change characteristics of health level, and summarize relevant experience, urge relevant personnel to make targeted improvements to the future work of students' physical health training, and scientifically improve the physical health level of Chinese students. © 2023 SPIE.

ABSTRACT

Over the past decade, additive manufacturing (AM) has become widely adopted for both prototyping and, more recently, end-use products. In particular, fused deposition modeling (FDM) is the most widespread form of additive manufacturing due to its low cost, ease of use, and versatility. While additive processes are relatively automated, many steps in their operation and repair require trained human operators. Finding such operators can be difficult, as highlighted during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Augmented reality (AR) systems could significantly help address this challenge by automating the training for 3D printer operators. Given multidimensional design choices, however, a research gap exists in the system requirements for such immersive guidance. To address this need, we explore the applicability of AR to guide users through a repair process. In that context, we report on the system design as well as the results of the AR system assessment in a qualitative study with experts. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

For equatorial African countries such as Rwanda the power grid in some regions is either absent or highly unreliable even though these locations are blessed with reliable solar radiation most of the time. Designing and implementing solar power systems capable of supporting micro-computer systems such as Raspberry Pi devices that can be used in educational environments is a way to overcome grid challenges while at the same time imparting valuable lessons covering Engineering, Technology, and Computing. Using Learning Engineering Sciences best practices effectively mitigates how COVID-19 that has required standard face-to-face project and learning strategies to transition to virtual or hybrid strategies that utilize Open Educational Resources (OER). These strategies include video conferencing, file sharing platforms, and messaging applications to generate learning activities, create courses to construct the learning program for training teachers in the use of OER and Raspberry Pi desktop devices. © 2023 IEEE.

Talent Management plays a crucial role to support the business continuity and empower the most important asset for the company - its people. The role that Talent Management has played was highlighted in different aspects across the organization, starting from developing competent HR team and HR department structure that can influence company culture by taking an active approach in this regard. The journey started by working with the executives and stakeholders across the business to evaluate the current company culture, assess potential gaps or opportunities, and create a strategic plan to align the organization's culture with its values and goals. Moreover, a deliberate building of core and supplementary HR systems serving the business strategy while respecting culture readiness has taken place. This started off with developing leadership development programs, conducting a competency management system for better training and skills development, relying on assessment tools in recruitment and using these tools in the on-boarding, knowledge sharing approach, creating a performance management culture and working on continuous development and improvement. The Leadership Development Program was achieved on 3 phases: Assessment phase, Development phase and re-assessment phase. One of the main objectives that we tried to focus on while implementing the leadership development program was to find employees who are potential leaders and nurture them early enough. In addition, it was crucial to identify a Leadership Competency Profile to have a clear, compelling vision of how the skills we were building in the leadership development program connect to the leadership road map in the company. In addition, and in the light of Covid-19 and the absence of Employee Training in 2020, the HR department came out with an initiative to carry out internal knowledge sharing workshops across the company. These workshops aimed at increasing employees' awareness with the different functions across the company in addition to increasing the level of engagement, communication, and presentation skills for employees. There is always a need to measure where we are and the progress done so far to know where we want to be and adjust the process accordingly. Therefore throughout all of these processes and programs, different feedback surveys were conducted to take necessary action plans. This helped in getting all employees onboard with us. Ultimately the alignment that was made between the Talent Management and the overall company's business strategy resulted in the company's ability to maintain a competitive advantage. ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the development of healthcare teamwork during and after the collaboration tabletop exercises, through observation and interview methods. Integration and maturity theoretical models were employed to explain the collaborative challenges in teams that may suffer from unequally distributed power, hierarchies, and fragmentation. Using three-level collaboration tabletop exercises and the Command and control, Safety, Communication, Assessment, Treatment, Triage, Transport (CSCATTT) instrument, 100 healthcare workers were observed during each step in the implementation of the CSCATTT instrument using two simulated scenarios. The results show a lack of integration and team maturity among participants in the first scenario, leading to the delayed start of the activity, task distribution, and decision making. These shortcomings were improved in the second scenario. In-depth interviews with 20 participants in the second phase of the study revealed improved knowledge and practical skills, self-confidence, and ability in team building within trans-professional groups in the second scenario, which in concordance with the integration theory, was due to the attempts made in the first scenario. Additionally, there was an improvement in the team's maturity, which in concordance with the maturity theory, was due to the knowledge and practical skills during scenario plays. These results indicate the importance of continuous tabletop training, and the use of CSCATTT as a collaborative instrument, to promote the development of collaboration and to test the concept of preparedness.

ABSTRACT

The article reveals the features of smart education as a leading concept in the development of professional training of future teachers. The main components of smart education, such as a smart student, smart pedagogy and smart environment were characterized. The main principles of smart education and the ideas that formed the basis of this concept of education (mobile access, formation of new knowledge, creation of a smart environment) were defined. The features of smart education were substantiated. The peculiarities of the implementation of smart education in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic and military events in Ukraine were revealed. The functions of the smart system (site management system) in the process of studying the disciplines of the pedagogical cycle, its content and technological components, and facilities of the smart complexes for students and teachers in the process of training future teachers were defined. The criteria of smart complexes (automation, sequencing, assessment, data collection in real time, self-organisation) were singled out. The distance learning systems for creating smart complexes in the process of training prospective teachers were considered. The results of students' survey as for using smart complexes in the educational process were analyzed. Due to the results, the advantages and disadvantages of using smart technologies in educational process were determined. The ways of further research work regarding the introduction of smart education into the educational process were outlined. © 2023 Copyright for this paper by its authors.

ABSTRACT

This research follows a previously published paper presented by Pourtoulidou and Frey which describes the conversion of a classroom-based to blended training for new employees entering aerospace companies [1]. This paper presents the lessons learned that derived from the analysis of the results after evaluating the blended training according to the participants', subject matter experts', and trainer's perspectives. Prior to the training, Pourtoulidou and Frey analyzed the demands of aerospace companies and the labor market in order to develop this introductory training [1]. The classroom-based training was developed, implemented and evaluated in 2018/2019. Utilizing this evaluation, the blended training consisted of an online phase, which lasted six months and provided access to lecture videos, literature material, quizzes, forums and virtual meetings over the Moodle platform. In the middle of the online phase, a face-to-face session took place in October 2021 in which the participants worked with practical applications and associated with subject matter experts operating directly in industrial projects. The lessons learned focus on the training development for employees' blended courses and on the specific limitations resulting from developing a joint training for entry-level aerospace engineers. The flexibility and further benefits of the training's online phase were well received from the participants, while the opportunity to meet, work and exchange experiences in person during the training was highly appreciated. This study focused on how police training academies in the State of Texas responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. A researcher-created survey was used to answer the three research questions posed. Research Question One asked: Are there differences between the three types of police training academies and their effectiveness in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic? The responses showed that there were no differences based on the type of police training academy and their effectiveness in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study also explored capable guardianship, an element that has been explored by criminal justice/criminology researchers, but comes from the original theoretical framework of the Routine Activity Theory developed by Cohen & Felson (1979). Research question two asked: Are there differences between the genders of the directors/training coordinators and how safe they felt entering their police training academies? The responses showed that there were no differences between the genders of the directors/training coordinators and how safe they felt entering their police training academies during the pandemic making them capable guardians.Research question three asked: Are there differences between the genders of the directors/training coordinators and whether they viewed themselves as capable guardians? The responses showed that there were significant differences between the genders of the directors/training coordinators and whether they viewed themselves as capable guardians. ABSTRACT

This study sought to investigate the challenges in the adoption of AI and ML in the Zimbabwean insurance industry. The TechnologyOrganisation-Environment (TOE) model was selected as the base theory underpinning the study. The study adopted a pragmatic research philosophy and a census was carried out on twenty insurance companies. Questionnaires were administered on operations managers representing their insurance companies. Interviews were used to collect data from 12 operation managers. NVivo version 16 was used to analyse the data thematically. The study results show that adoption of AI by the insurance sector in Zimbabwe is hindered by shortage of resources, lack of expertise and high cost of AI compliant products. These researchers recommend resource allocation, training of employees, culture change, and updated technological environment to ensure effective adoption of AI. This study will contribute to the body of knowledge, be significant to insurance practitioners and policy makers whilst giving direction for future studies. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The development of digital technology has transformed our lifestyle and habits in all areas especially since the Covid-19 pandemic. Higher education is a field where digital pedagogy has impacted the practices of teachers and students on mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.). Mobile learning has become one of the information and communication technologies in education (ICTE) used to search, communicate, study and disseminate information through several learning modalities. According to several studies, the latter is widely used among students. The aim of the present paper is to identify the use of mobile learning in the learning process of teacher training. More precisely, we question the contribution of smartphones in the learning process of students from the High School of Education and Training of Agadir. The data we have presented comes from a quantitative survey along with an interview-based research to analyze the effects of mobile technology. The research shows that students use their cell phones to search for educational resources, and also to interact with the instructors and exchange files with their peers, and they are highly motivated to have opted for this type of learning. ABSTRACT

E-learning platforms are essential tools used widely for teaching and learning English, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also used to communicate and interact with students, assess progress, evaluate assignments, and provide feedback. However, teachers of English face potential barriers when they use such platforms. This study examines the use of e-learning platforms in teaching English as a foreign language in Jordan. The study employed a quantitative research method. The findings revealed that using e-learning platforms for educational purposes is beneficial regarding accessibility when attending courses. E-learning enabled the students to practise more and to be more engaged in the learning process, which improved their language skills. Effective e-learning platform strategies significantly broaden students' perceptions and increase the opportunity to exchange information with their classmates. Nonetheless, several impediments may hinder the application of e-learning platforms, including teacher-related, technical, and technological factors. The study recommends that teachers use interactive methods, including images, sounds, videos, and multimedia, to engage learners with various needs and abilities. ABSTRACT

In 2020, Covid-19 pandemic has forced millions of individuals worldwide to work remotely with little or no prior experience, for corporations and organizations that are mostly equipped for this change. The third worry concerning remote work quality is whether employees can adjust and what factors influence this. To address such scenarios, a model of remote work self-efficacy was previously established. The development, on the other hand, was intended to evaluate virtual enterprises with dependable ICT and adequate human training. Unprepared, the research attempts to delve deeper into the constituents of its forefathers. The study included 46 participants from the provinces of Jakarta, Central Java, and Yogyakarta in May 2021, when rapid viral spread forced businesses to lock their doors. Unlike other studies, this one show how two-way conversations that generate social persuasion, physiological and emotional states, and self-efficacy improve distant job quality. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

For some years, teachers' digital skills have been critical to the educational process;nevertheless, with the health catastrophe released by Covid-19, they have become critical. So, the purpose of this study was to examine and quantify the degree of digital literacy among instructors of Regular Basic Education at UGEL Tacna. The study used a hybrid quantitative-qualitative methodology and was mostly descriptive in nature. There were 1,329 teachers in the population and sample. The questionnaire and the interview were employed as instruments. The findings suggest that 49.89% teachers had a high degree of digital competence, while 12.19% have a basic level, which includes instructors at the elementary, primary, and secondary levels. Instructors get knowledge about web 2.0 technologies and their utility and application via interviews;it is advised that teachers enhance cognitive digital abilities. That is, the investigative skills geared toward the virtual environment and their development in pupils. It concludes by identifying the most critical training needs associated with the cognitive digital domain's medium-low level, establishing the necessity of developing a strengthening plan for cognitive digital skills that have not been developed satisfactorily, particularly in the creation of digital educational materials and related educational projects. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The education sector and the students are the ones who have been largely affected by the spread of the global pandemic. The sudden outbreak of the coronavirus has taken an enormous emotional and psychological toll on people. Across the world, people had to face various problems starting from very simple daily life necessities to education, work-related problems. In the domain of education, adaptability came along with a set of challenges and took some time to settle. The transition in the teaching-learning process across the world has been truly undeniable. Like all other things, even this new mode of imparting education has its own set of benefits as well as drawbacks. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, a lot of research has been going on in understanding the kind of psychological impact it causes and how the students are impacted due to reshaping the teaching-learning process. As per UNESCO 2020 report, greater will be the risk of children losing out on their youth, and future due to the closure of the educational institutes. Adequate training and assessment are required for the teachers to adjust to the new technology-based learning. The use of digital tools has drastically increased in engineering education, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. These tools generate important ethical issues, in particular in terms of privacy and fairness. However, very few teacher training programmes address those topics, which means that teachers are often left to figure out by themselves how to address these issues when they want (or have) to use digital tools in their teaching. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to a pragmatic approach to the ethical design of learning experiences that involve digital tools using a visual thinking guide called a 'canvas'. Time-evolution of partial differential equations is fundamental for modeling several complex dynamical processes and events forecasting, but the operators associated with such problems are non-linear. We propose a Padé approximation based exponential neural operator scheme for efficiently learning the map between a given initial condition and the activities at a later time. The multiwavelets bases are used for space discretization. By explicitly embedding the exponential operators in the model, we reduce the training parameters and make it more data-efficient which is essential in dealing with scarce and noisy real-world datasets. The Padé exponential operator uses a recurrent structure with shared parameters to model the non-linearity compared to recent neural operators that rely on using multiple linear operator layers in succession. We show theoretically that the gradients associated with the recurrent Padé network are bounded across the recurrent horizon. We perform experiments on non-linear systems such as Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (KS) equations to show that the proposed approach achieves the best performance and at the same time is data-efficient. We also show that urgent real-world problems like epidemic forecasting (for example, COVID-19) can be formulated as a 2D time-varying operator problem. The proposed Padé exponential operators yield better prediction results (53% (52%) better MAE than best neural operator (non-neural operator deep learning model)) compared to state-of-the-art forecasting models. © 2022 ICLR 2022 - 10th International Conference on Learning Representationss. Social-emotional learning (SEL) has gained attention in education. Awareness of student social-emotional health concerns increased throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and with this increased awareness, stressors for educators have also increased. However, educators have noted that, despite the significance of social-emotional needs and SEL program implementation in schools, there is a lack of effective educator preparation, knowledge, and support. Despite the growing attention on student social-emotional health, there is - to this researcher's knowledge - little research focused on educator needs when attempting to address student social-emotional health. The question for this research was: In what ways does collaboration and "build time" help to develop capacity for educators to design better social-emotional supports for students? The purpose of this action research study was to explore how collaboration and build time following training help to develop capacity for educators to design better social-emotional supports for students. Participants included seven educators who had taken part in the organization's training and who were separated into two levels. Using their organizational training and experiences, participants collaborated to co-construct materials. Participants completed individual and collaborative feedback forms, constructed materials for an organizational repository and their school sites, and took part in semi-structured interviews, which were member-checked. The researcher recorded notes and analytic memos throughout the study as well. The data collected was coded using in-vivo, process, and descriptive coding procedures and then analyzed. Findings from this study suggest that (1) supporting educators' learning through additional learning opportunities is necessary to help to address student needs, (2) collaboration is critical in education, and (3) supporting educators' well-being is critical. Study implications include (1) supporting and training educators to address student social-emotional health and development, (2) developing systems and establishing environments that ensure student and staff needs are met, which may build capacity for social-emotional learning, and (3) addressing professional and personal needs through collaborative opportunities beyond professional development and training opportunities. To fully address student social-emotional health and development, the lens cannot be solely on students, but, instead, the educational, social-emotional, and mental needs of educators must also be addressed. ABSTRACT

In order to determine the panorama of secondary education teachers who received training in ICT use before the transition to e-teaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru, this study is presented with a quantitative, descriptive and trending approach. For this, three Surveys to Peruvian Teachers (ENDO) carried out by Ministerio de Educación del Perú before the pandemic, in 2014, 2016 and 2018 were analyzed. The total of secondary education teachers who participated in each year, respectively, were 3710 (78.5% = urban, 21.5% = rural), 3986 (81.9% = urban, 18.1% = rural) and 6118 (85.3% = urban, 14.7% = rural). After the analysis, it can be concluded that number of teachers trained in 2014 decreased in 2018 that classroom-based modality was the predominant one in these trainings, and Amazon region is the one that presents the most worrying figures. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
